Changelog
New features, improvements, and fixes in every version of ego(lite).
ego(lite) 0.6.1.9
Features
- Settings adds an On-device AI switch. When it is off, local AI models are no longer downloaded, and models already downloaded are removed.
- Import data from Comet, Opera, Vivaldi, Yandex, Dia, Arc, Firefox, and Zen. Imports can now include the reading list and site permission settings.
- Play copy-protected content. With licensing now in place, protected audio and video from services such as Netflix and Spotify play in the browser.
Improvements
- Upgraded the browser engine to Chromium 156.0.8078.48 and the built-in Node.js to v24.22.1.
- Improved the import flow in first-run onboarding.
- Importing passwords keeps password notes and supports Edge's new encryption format.
- The system and display no longer go to sleep while an Agent task is running.
- After a page loads DRM-protected content, the ego-browser CLI and Agents can no longer take screenshots of it, record it, capture it in trace screenshots, or print it to PDF. Developer tools you open yourself are not affected.
- All Profile lists, including Open link as in the right-click menu, now hide the internal Profiles that ego(lite) uses.
Fixes
- Fixed a Space opened in a new window from the Spaces Overview not appearing on the current display, tab changes in a background Space taking focus away from the current one, and page bubbles or popups showing on top of the Overview.
- Fixed settings such as the startup page, home page, pinned tabs, and search engine being reset after an import, Chrome extensions installed by external programs not being kept, and data that the source browser itself could not decrypt making the whole import fail.
- Fixed crashes that could occur when selecting an internal Profile, when closing a window, Space, or dialog, and while taking a page snapshot.
ego(lite) 0.6.0.15
Improvements
- On macOS, only the active window shows the glass background. Inactive windows stay opaque, which lowers the performance cost.
- Added more space on the left and right of the shortcut hints below the Space preview and the floating button, so the text no longer touches the border.
Fixes
- Fixed the collapse button shifting to the right when the vertical tab strip expands on hover in fullscreen.
ego(lite) 0.6.0.12
Features
- Add a vertical tab strip, and switch between horizontal and vertical layouts during first-run onboarding or in Settings. When collapsed it hides completely, and expands when the pointer reaches the left edge of the window below the toolbar. In fullscreen it opens from the left edge of the screen, so working near the edge of a page is less likely to open it by accident.
- The vertical tab strip supports tab groups. Create a group directly from the bookmarks bar and expand it to view the tabs.
- Pinned tabs in the floating tab strip are arranged in an icon grid.
- Settings adds an Export data entry. Export runs in its own window.
- An Agent task Space closes automatically after 30 minutes without a command. Pinned Spaces, Spaces you created, and Spaces already handed back to you during a task are not affected.
Improvements
- Refined the appearance and interaction of the vertical tab strip and tab groups. Horizontal and vertical tab groups now share colors, borders, title weight, spacing, and folder icons. Group expand animations, context menus, and the clear button in the name field are more complete, and play and mute icons on tabs match Space media state. The tab group management button is not pinned by default, and a previous choice is kept.
- Refined the floating tab strip: collapse timing, panel background, blur, shadow, and expand animation. After it collapses, the window can be dragged from empty space on the toolbar.
- Updated the What's New page to introduce the vertical tab strip and switch the layout directly.
- Restart restores every saved Space, including unpinned Spaces. When a Profile already has a Space, creating a new Space opens only one new tab.
- Closing a window and moving its Space to another window keeps tab groups, pinned tabs, and the active tab. Opening a saved tab group that is already open in another Space moves it to the current Space.
- While the Spaces Overview is open, keyboard input, address-bar focus, and tab shortcuts no longer apply.
- Space icons follow light and dark themes. The Space floating button background is opaque so the Agent overlay does not show through. The toolbar displays correctly when a normal browser window is fullscreen on macOS, and the tab strip, toolbar, and macOS window buttons align.
- The Agent control overlay stays visible while a Space expands or collapses. The task border glow uses the brand blue, and dragging the Agent control bar no longer resets its position.
- Import several browsers at once. Existing Profiles are kept by default, and each import creates a new Profile. Choosing to clear existing Profiles restarts and removes the old data only after the import succeeds.
- Import results distinguish complete success, partial success, and data loss, and name the browser or Profile that did not import. Import help now lists Chrome, Edge, and Brave.
- Web apps installed on macOS use the application folder name of the matching Ego channel. DMG install no longer shows an extra first-install confirmation. Chromium is upgraded from 152.0.7977.54 to 154.0.8037.44, and Node.js from 24.18.1 to 24.21.0.
Fixes
- Fixed crashes when dragging the vertical tab strip width to the collapsed position and when closing a Space that contains split-view tabs, and bubbles such as Translate not closing when a Space closes.
- Fixed extra windows when the app is brought forward again, a flash when the initial Space activates, the browser quitting early during restore, and Space thumbnails not keeping their original aspect ratio.
- Fixed tab dialogs for a hidden Space not hiding with it and remaining after the Space closes, and task windows staying hidden and unable to reopen from the Dock after canceling a Space close while quitting on macOS.
- Fixed a hidden window appearing when an Agent creates a task tab, incorrect sizes for new task pages and popups after closing a window from the Spaces Overview causing timeouts, a task Space with a JavaScript dialog losing control after it is hidden or enters and leaves the Spaces Overview, and session restore after a task not keeping the vertical tab strip's collapsed state and width.
- Fixed automated downloads not keeping the normal download record and file location, screenshots of a minimized window not returning a clear error immediately, and a screenshot crash when the page renderer process has already exited.
- Fixed the onboarding window not appearing or opening off-screen because page-ready and size notifications arrived out of order, and restart or quit getting stuck after onboarding finishes.
- Fixed local and already synced visit history being deleted by a later sync cleanup after history was imported.
ego(lite) 0.5.1.13
Fixes
- Fixed macOS incorrectly detecting Agent as installed, which caused browser features to malfunction, and automatically cleaned up invalid configuration left over from older versions.
ego(lite) 0.5.1.12
Features
- Sign in to websites with passkeys stored in the macOS iCloud Keychain, including Touch ID.
ego(lite) 0.5.1.11
Features
- Import bookmarks, history, and passwords from Safari.
- The first-run onboarding flow also supports importing data from Safari.
- The Spaces Overview shows each Space's configured switching shortcut, with matching shortcut hints on the floating button.
Improvements
- Improved Chromium-based browser import so optional data types are more accurate and imports are more reliable.
- Improved state and Profile handling after bulk Space cleanup, and unified confirmation flows for close and exit actions.
- Discarded tabs now show site icons at reduced opacity.
- Refined visuals across the UI for more consistent light and dark mode presentation.
- Agent file operations accept absolute paths or ~/ to specify file locations.
Fixes
- Fixed some Cookies being unreadable after importing from Chromium-based browsers, the source browser not being found when importing from the command line, encrypted sessions sometimes failing to import, and the onboarding page being unable to open the file picker.
- Fixed a small blank onboarding window flashing at startup, and abnormal backgrounds on the onboarding and What's New pages.
- Fixed the previous window staying in Overview after switching to another window's Space with a shortcut, duplicate windows and incorrect Space order, the Space menu not closing properly, videos without an audio track appearing muted, and Profile menu commands not running correctly.
- Fixed click-through when expanding an Agent-controlled Space from Overview, inability to handle page dialogs after reconnecting, and a crash when related tabs closed.
- Fixed crashes that could occur when closing a Space, deleting a Profile, creating a Space Profile, or restoring tabs, and after completing authentication with a passkey.
ego(lite) 0.5.0.32
Improvements
- Improved the onboarding flow and browser-data import, and adapted to macOS 27 system file-permission changes.
- Updated the macOS DMG installer image icon.
Fixes
- Fixed pinned Spaces and their tabs not restoring, and an extra new window being created, when a Profile started without restoring the last session.
- Fixed pinned task Spaces not being kept, and an unnecessary batch-task confirmation dialog appearing, when using Close All to clear Spaces.
- Fixed the New Space entry disappearing when returning from the Spaces Overview, and Space creation becoming stuck after an interrupted transition.
- Fixed the active Space's glass window showing the wrong state during Overview and transitions, with the background unexpectedly transparent or obscured.
- Fixed startup not opening a blank window when there were no Spaces to restore. When Spaces can be restored, they now restore according to session settings.
- Fixed the address bar not staying read-only while an Agent controls a Space, and not becoming editable immediately after the task ends or the user takes over.
ego(lite) 0.5.0.28
Features
- Pin Spaces. Pinned state, order, and session data restore after the browser restarts, including after consecutive restarts. Clearing Spaces keeps pinned ones, and closing a pinned Space asks for confirmation first.
- The Spaces Overview shows each Space's media playback state: not playing, muted, or playing with sound.
- Customize Space-switching shortcuts: click the shortcut field to record a new combination. Changes sync to already-open related Settings pages.
- A What's New page appears on first launch or a major-version upgrade, comparing the current version with the previous one.
- Space thumbnails render in software-rendering environments such as virtual machines and remote desktops.
- Page snapshots include more precise page-structure information so Agents can identify page content and elements more accurately.
- An experimental macOS frosted-glass window background can be enabled in Settings. It is off by default and takes effect after restart.
Improvements
- New ego-browser skill and toolset.
- Creating a Space has a smoother return animation, and Space hover actions, thumbnail updates, and page stacking restore more reliably.
- Incognito mode disables Space-switching controls. External links open in the current or selected Space.
- Discarded tabs keep site icons at normal size and brightness, without shrinking, dimming, or a status ring.
- Tab strip layout is more consistent across orientations, including spacing after the tab-search button, the vertical tab-strip collapse control, and the vertical-tab toggle icon.
- Task completion state, hover effects, the task status ring, the task menu, and the Space cleanup menu have clearer colors, shadows, text, and width.
- Window corner radius, borders, background selection, fullscreen layout, and window activation are more consistent across platforms.
- Concurrent Node.js runtime startup is handled more reliably.
- Upgraded to Chromium 152, with matching updates across the browser, Settings, sessions, and UI.
- The macOS DMG installer image is updated, along with signing, active Agent version links, and update compatibility.
Fixes
- Fixed extension-registered shortcuts overriding Space shortcuts.
- Fixed Agent task tabs being dragged out of the window unexpectedly, intercepted new windows not appearing in the tab strip, and Agent control interrupting when a page shows a JavaScript dialog.
- Fixed display glitches and crashes in software-rendering environments such as virtual machines and remote desktops, including when thumbnail bounds change or the active Space is closed, and UI stutter or crashes in some rendering environments.
- Fixed page stacking, background transparency, and thumbnail display after switching Spaces.
- Fixed incomplete shadows on web page prompts, overlays that did not auto-recover after a display glitch, and hidden windows that did not appear on restart.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when the Node.js runtime restored with pending console messages.
ego(lite) 0.4.7.4
Improvements
- Space switching shortcuts and the floating entry are now enabled only in regular user Profiles.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where running concurrent ego-browser Node.js tasks could disconnect some tasks.
ego(lite) 0.4.7.3
Fixes
- Fixed a crash that could occur when migrating or closing windows.
ego(lite) 0.4.7.2
Fixes
- Fixed a crash that could occur when thumbnails release shared images.
- Fixed the Agent task overlay not auto-recovering after a GPU process crash.
ego(lite) 0.4.7.1
Features
- Create a New Space while an Agent controls the current Space, with animation feedback when a new profile Space is created.
Improvements
- Space preservation and restore after a task ends or a session is restored is more reliable, reducing lost or inconsistent Agent-created Spaces.
- In the Spaces overview, popups, permission prompts, FedCM, JavaScript alerts, beforeunload dialogs, and hidden WebContents no longer interrupt the current action when a Space is hidden.
- Agent task close dialogs, bulk-delete warnings, Enter-to-confirm, the task overlay, Island thumbnails, and running-task status display are clearer.
- CLI task-space handoff copy and reason labels are clearer, and you can specify the ego server name at startup.
- Visuals now follow the new color system across floating buttons, shadows, the palette, product logo, and WebUI icons, with updated task controls, dialogs, Welcome Aboard spacing, and Agent control bar shadows.
- The macOS File menu New Space item is updated, and the black product logo is the default brand mark across channels.
- Memory Saver is enabled by default.
- macOS DMG install-and-replace is more complete: running installs are detected by bundle path, and disk-image install cleanup is more reliable.
- Captions and translate UI are suppressed while an Agent controls a Space.
Fixes
- Fixed edge cases when closing the last Space tab, opening an empty window, routing active-Space shortcuts, reentrant activation notifications, and Mainland hide animations.
- Fixed passive popup UI mixing with the user-takeover flow, and added a related kill switch.
- Fixed location-bar bubbles, tab modal dialogs, and device-selection prompts appearing in hidden Spaces.
- Fixed a crash when canceling close of an already-destroyed Browser, a fatal Node shutdown CDP callback, and headless task overlay compositor issues.
ego(lite) 0.4.6.14
Fixes
- Fixed a 0.4.6.12 regression where workspace display-state updates fell out of sync and caused excessive memory usage. Workspace visibility now stays in sync when switching between multiple windows or views.
ego(lite) 0.4.6.13
Improvements
- Adjusted Space keyboard switching so it no longer overrides system cursor shortcuts: press +S to open the Space management page; hold and repeatedly press S, Left arrow, or Right arrow to switch Spaces quickly.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where OpenCode and Hermes on the welcome page could not be clicked to open the client.
ego(lite) 0.4.6.12
Features
- Switch Spaces from the keyboard: hold and press S to open the Space overview and select the next Space; keep pressing S or the right arrow to move forward and the left arrow to move back; release to confirm the switch. +W closes the selected Space.
- Open a Space in a new window from the overview while preserving tabs, title, Agent task ownership, and display order.
- Choose a Profile when creating a Space, and keep the profile menu selection aligned with the current Space.
- Delete all Spaces at once; running task Spaces are kept with a clear warning.
- CLI task-spaces output now includes Profile ID and profile name so task Spaces across Profiles are easier to tell apart.
Improvements
- Space shelf ordering, restore, migration, deletion, and overview state are more stable, reducing misaligned multi-window restore and duplicate refresh. When creating a Profile-specific task Space, the current frame is preferred to avoid duplicate windows.
- Agent detection is faster: startup now batch-checks agent configs and caches the results.
- While an Agent controls a Space, browser and Space shortcuts that would disrupt the task are blocked, and browser UI unsuitable for automation—beforeunload prompts, file pickers, credential dialogs, and external protocol handlers—no longer interrupt the task.
- Agent-created Spaces rejoin session restore after a task finishes, stops, or fails, so preserved task Spaces return after restart. Running Agent tasks keep active content visible, with a warning when a popup leaves the controlled Space.
- The onboarding browser-import list now uses ScrollArea for better hover, focus, and scrolling on long lists. macOS App Data permission checks, System Settings shortcuts, and authorization waiting improve the browser data import flow.
Fixes
- Fixed Space overflow clicks, overview animation refresh, duplicate beforeunload prompts, and close-shortcut scope issues.
- Fixed Space teardown, fullscreen exit, command routing, tab close buttons, and inactive overlay updates.
- Fixed startup and shutdown coordinator lifecycle, the white bar at the top of fullscreen apps, frame hiding after leaving fullscreen, and fullscreen frames that could linger after closing the last Space tab.
- Fixed leftover CDP callbacks when a Node runtime ends during concurrent Agent tasks, which could abort the utility process and disconnect other tasks on the same host. The Node/CLI bridge now handles environment load failures more robustly, reducing crash risk during startup and task execution.
ego(lite) 0.4.5.9
Fixes
- Fixed a crash that could occur when starting incognito during a blocking task.
ego(lite) 0.4.5.8
Improvements
- When an Agent is using the current Space, Settings and other user pages now open in a normal Space in the same Profile, avoiding task interruptions.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where deleting the only Space in a window left the window blank.
ego(lite) 0.4.5.7
Fixes
- Fixed the sidebar (bookmarks, reading list, and other panels) not working after switching Spaces in multi-Profile setups.
- Fixed several stability issues that could cause the app to crash.
ego(lite) 0.4.5.6
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where closing the last tab in a window switched to another Space instead of closing the window.
ego(lite) 0.4.5.5
Features
- Tabs can now be muted individually, giving you control over audio playback per tab.
- The CLI can now connect to a specific browser instance by server name, making it easier to automate multi-Profile, multi-agent, or multi-instance setups.
Improvements
- Task Space and window state management is more reliable: improvements to Space migration, window close, Profile switching, and session restore reduce duplicate frames, state loss, and accidental delete confirmations.
- Browser data auto-sync now only runs when ego(lite) is not the default browser and the sync interval has elapsed, with support for sync plans across multiple Chromium profiles.
- Browser source discovery now runs off the UI thread, reducing the chance of the interface stalling during data sync checks.
- Copy for import data sync, default browser prompts, and onboarding is clearer, making current settings easier to understand.
- The macOS DMG install experience now defaults to double-click install, with updated background art and window layout; preview builds still use the drag-to-install layout for release checks.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where refreshing the overlay in a background or non-current Task Space could override the current user-control state.
- Fixed Command-W in a user-controlled Space incorrectly triggering the Agent task delete confirmation.
- Fixed transient, incognito, pending-delete, and other non-restorable windows being incorrectly migrated during migration.
- Fixed an issue where a failed ego-browser Node.js script could still cause the outer CLI to report success.
- Fixed CLI task creation not landing on the regular Profile and creating a visible Task Space when only incognito windows existed.
- Fixed the CLI CDP bridge allowing new browser targets to be created via Target.createTarget.
- Fixed the Windows Start Menu shortcut label not using the ego(lite) product name.
ego(lite) 0.4.4.15
Features
- Agent tasks can now run with a specified browser Profile, so each task can use the appropriate login state, browsing data, and context.
- A new “Keep browser data up to date” setting can periodically sync supported data, including bookmarks and history, from a detected source browser.
- Space cards now show the running status of Agent tasks, making task progress easier to check at a glance.
Improvements
- Closing the last tab in a Task Space now removes that Space immediately.
- After browser data import finishes, the newly imported Profile window now opens automatically.
- URLs opened outside an Agent task now open in a regular browser window instead of being added to a running Task Space.
- Browser keyboard shortcuts now restore correctly after you take over a task from an Agent.
- Task tabs created by an Agent are muted by default, so they do not interrupt your current browsing or media playback.
- Imported browser themes are preserved without overriding the appearance of ego(lite).
- After a browser update, the ego-browser CLI and supported Agent integrations now sync to the current version automatically.
Fixes
- Fixed crashes that could occur in private windows and other non-standard browser windows in some situations.
- Fixed title-bar layout issues in standalone app windows such as PWAs.
- Fixed crashes that could occur in some information-bar scenarios.
ego(lite) 0.4.3.9
This update includes changes from 0.4.2.21 through 0.4.3.9.
Features
- Attachments now open in your default desktop app, so you can view and edit files without extra steps.
Improvements
- Agent Space now shows clearer progress while a task is running, with smoother transitions when the agent starts or returns control.
- Fullscreen mode is more predictable: the tab bar no longer appears or disappears unexpectedly.
- Browser data import is more reliable. The app no longer quits unexpectedly during import, and imported tabs restore correctly.
- Update reminders now show up sooner, making it easier to stay current.
Fixes
- Fixed crashes that could happen when closing a window with running tasks or switching Spaces.
- Fixed duplicate tab groups when restoring a window from the Dock on multi-monitor setups.
- Fixed an issue where global keyboard shortcuts sometimes stopped responding.
ego(lite) 0.4.2.21
This update includes changes from 0.4.1.3 through 0.4.2.21.
Features
- A new welcome page opens after first install and guides you through setting up the command-line tool, from installation to your first run.
- Press F12 to open developer tools quickly.
Improvements
- Transitions are smoother when the agent starts or finishes a task, with loading indicators that reduce blank screens while you wait.
- Space animations and interactions feel more polished. Cards move more smoothly after you delete a Space, close confirmations are clearer, and the post-install tip stays visible until you open it.
- Importing browser data now triggers fewer unnecessary restarts.
Fixes
- Fixed a crash that could happen when closing an agent task.
ego(lite) 0.6.1.9
When another program is holding a source file, ego(lite) temporarily closes that program and restarts it after the import finishes. Programs that cannot be restarted are listed in the import results.
- Fixed ego(lite) quitting after the last Space was closed. It now keeps running in the system tray, and the ego-browser CLI can still connect. Clicking the tray icon or Open creates a new Space.
- Fixed settings such as the startup page, home page, pinned tabs, and search engine being reset after an import, Chrome extensions installed by external programs not being kept, and data that the source browser itself could not decrypt making the whole import fail.
- Fixed crashes that could occur when selecting an internal Profile, when closing a window, Space, or dialog, and while taking a page snapshot.
ego(lite) 0.6.0.22
Fixes
- Fixed an error where the command line could not connect to the browser after dropping to standard user permissions. This affected a small number of users who have UAC turned off and run the browser itself as administrator.
ego(lite) 0.6.0.20
Improvements
- Improved the default browser setup experience during first-run onboarding on Windows.
- Closing unfinished onboarding from the taskbar, system menu, or Alt+F4 now quits the app. Onboarding appears again on the next launch instead of being skipped to open the browser. Alt+F4 in the Windows onboarding window follows the same close flow and cancels any data import in progress.
- Command-line startup loads fewer unnecessary system libraries. Node scripts now keep their original exit codes from 0 to 9 instead of converting them to a generic error.
- The Windows online installer now follows the system language instead of always displaying English.
Fixes
- Fixed the Windows onboarding, data import, and data export windows not moving when dragged from their page drag regions.
- Fixed ego-browser command-line argument parsing failing on some Windows systems with faulty runtime components. The nodejs, import, upgrade, and onboarding commands now connect through a child process with standard user permissions when run from an administrator terminal, preventing disconnections caused by permission differences while preserving standard input, standard output, and exit codes.
ego(lite) 0.6.0.16
Fixes
- Fixed ego-browser crashing right away on some Windows machines.
ego(lite) 0.6.0.15
Improvements
- Added more space on the left and right of the shortcut hints below the Space preview and the floating button, so the text no longer touches the border.
Fixes
- Fixed a window unexpectedly getting wider when restored from minimized on Windows, with the vertical tab strip on and an inactive Space in the window.
- Fixed the collapse button shifting to the right when the vertical tab strip expands on hover in fullscreen.
