How to use ego (lite) with your own Agent Harness

Connect your own Agent Harness to ego (lite) on Windows. Check command access, load ego-browser, and complete a browser task, with Hermes as the example.

Example footage: This guide uses Hermes Agent recordings to show one Windows connection workflow. Your Harness may use different menus, commands, and permission names.

Your own Agent Harness can use ego-browser to work in an ego (lite) Space. The recording follows an Airbnb search for accommodation in Tokyo, from loading the skill to reviewing a table of three listings.

Before you start: install ego (lite)

Install ego (lite) on Windows and finish setup. Open your Harness on the same computer and start a new session.

Your Harness needs to read the ego-browser skill and run its commands on the computer where ego (lite) is installed. If commands run inside a sandbox or on a remote machine, use your Harness's supported host-execution permission or bridge. Changing command approval settings alone does not provide that connection.

Step 1: Set session permissions

In your Harness, allow the session to run the commands that launch ego (lite) and control the browser. You can review and approve command requests as they appear.

Hermes example: The recording opens Settings > Safety > Approvals and sets Approval Mode to Smart. Use your own Harness's corresponding controls; this setting name belongs to Hermes.

If you use a TUI, look for command permissions in its session settings, configuration, or documented startup options.

Step 2: Load the ego-browser skill

Load ego-browser from your Harness's Skill picker or slash-command menu, then describe the browser task.

Hermes example: Type /ego-browser, add a space, and enter the task in the same message before sending it.

If your Harness or TUI does not provide Skill slash commands, ask the agent to locate and read the installed ego-browser skill before starting. A missing /ego-browser menu item does not by itself mean the skill cannot be used.

Step 3: Let your agent work

The recording shows Hermes opening Airbnb in an ego (lite) Space, searching Tokyo, and reading the listings. With the skill loaded and local command access available, give your own Harness a browser task:

Use ego-browser to search Airbnb for accommodation in Tokyo, Japan. Compare three inexpensive listings and return their links and the prices shown on the page.

Switch to the agent Space to follow its progress. Your own tabs stay in your Space while the task runs.

Step 4: Check the result

Hermes returns a comparison table with three listings, displayed prices, property details, and source links. Your Harness may present the answer differently. Check that it returned the information requested and links to the pages it used.

Troubleshooting

ego-browser is missing

Finish ego (lite) setup and fully restart your Harness. If it supports importing Skills, use its supported method to load the installed ego-browser skill.

The skill loads but ego (lite) does not open

Check where the Harness runs commands. It needs to execute ego-browser on the Windows computer where ego (lite) is installed. Loading the skill inside a sandbox or remote runtime does not provide host execution.

The agent keeps asking for approval

Review the command requests or adjust your Harness's documented approval settings. If the browser opens after approval, the connection is working.

The website asks you to sign in

Open the agent Space in ego (lite), complete the sign-in or verification yourself, and then ask the agent to continue.
