How to use ego (lite) with Codex

Use Codex with ego (lite) on Windows. Set Full access, load Ego Browser, and review a browser task.

Codex can use ego-browser to work in an ego (lite) Space on Windows. The full recording follows a Reddit research task from the Codex app through the final result.

The example asks Codex to find a popular Reddit post from the past week, open it, and return the details visible on the page in a table.

Before you start: install ego (lite)

Install ego (lite) on Windows and finish setup. Open Codex on the same computer and start a new chat. If you need help with the browser setup, begin with Quick start.

Check that the Ego Browser skill is available in Codex. If it is missing, finish ego (lite) setup, restart Codex, and check again.

Step 1: Give Codex Full access

In Settings > General > Permissions, make Full access available and confirm the warning. This adds it to the chat's permission menu. Back in the Codex chat, open the permission menu below the input box and select Full access. Check that Full access appears below the input before sending the task. This setting lets Codex launch ego (lite) and run the local browser task.

Step 2: Load the Ego Browser skill

Type /ego in the Codex input box and select Ego Browser from the skill list. The selected skill appears in your prompt before you send the task. Then describe the browser task you want Codex to run.

Step 3: Let Codex work in the browser

Codex opens Reddit in an ego (lite) Space, finds a post, and reads the page. You can switch to the agent Space to follow its work while your own tabs stay where they are.

Step 4: Check the result

Codex returns a table with the post title, subreddit, link, posting date, and visible engagement figures. In the recording, Reddit does not show a view count, so Codex marks it not shown. Open the linked post to check the figures before using the result.

Troubleshooting

Ego Browser is missing

Finish ego (lite) setup, close Codex, and open it again. Type /ego in a new chat and look for Ego Browser in the skill list.

Codex cannot open ego (lite)

Check that ego (lite) is installed on the same Windows computer and that Full access appears below the Codex input box. Review any permission prompt before trying the task again.

Reddit asks you to sign in

Open the agent Space in ego (lite), complete the sign-in or verification yourself, and then ask Codex to continue. Keep passwords and verification codes out of the task prompt.
